Cohuna District Hospital provides a range of access to services for in patients, Transition Care Program clients and Residential Aged Care clients through contracted arrangements with local allied health service providers, and works in conjunction in referring community based clients to Northern District Community Health for ongoing care upon program discharge.

Physiotherapy Services

Physiotherapists are highly qualified health professionals who work in partnership with their patients to help people get better and stay well.

Using advanced techniques and evidence-based care, physiotherapists assess, diagnose, treat and prevent a wide range of health conditions and movement disorders. Physiotherapy helps repair damage, reduce stiffness and pain, increase mobility and improve quality of life.

Physiotherapy extends from health promotion to injury prevention, acute care, rehabilitation, maintenance of functional mobility, chronic disease management, patient and carer education and occupational health.

This service is supported by funding from the Commonwealth and Victorian Governments.

Fees

  • $75.00 per consultation
  • $60.00 for Pensioners

Fees do not apply for services to:

  • Public Inpatients of Cohuna District Hospital
  • Non-admitted DVA, TAC, NDIS Home care package(L3/4} recipients and Workcover clients are billed directly at agreed rates

Occupational Therapy

The Occupational Therapist uses activities and aids to prevent and overcome physical, emotional or social disabilities in people of all ages. Independence in all aspects of daily living is the objective.

Referrals are accepted from medical practitioners, allied health practitioners and health care agencies.

The Occupational Therapist works with:

Inpatients and Transition Care Program clients of Cohuna District Hospital via internal referral

  • Relaxation therapy
  • Assessment and treatment relating to everyday activities
  • Back care education
  • Prescription / Applying for aids and equipment funding through the Victorian Government
  • Upper limb function
  • Cognitive function
  • Personal alarm system
  • Wheelchair and Scooter Assessment

They can also advise and support Short term Equipment Loans when discharged from Cohuna District Hospital such as:

  • Over-toilet frames
  • Shower chairs
  • Wheelchairs
  • Commodes

Dietician

  • The role of the dietician includes:
  • Assessment of nutritional status. This includes individual dietary plan advice and practical strategies.
  • Advice on modified foods and caloric intake.
  • Support to the Food Services team at Cohuna District Hospital, to ensure meals are nutritionally balanced and meet the needs of clients.
  • Management of Enteral Nutrition and discharge Enteral Nutrition preparation.

Speech Pathology

Speech Pathology services are available to assist people with communication difficulties such as speaking, language, fluency (stuttering), reading and voice. Speech Pathologists also assist people with difficulties swallowing food and drink safely.

Our Speech Pathologist assist inpatients of Cohuna District Hospital, Transition Care Program and Cohuna District Hospital residential Aged Care clients.
