Cohuna District Hospital is a welcoming, rural health service located in northern Victoria, dedicated to delivering high-quality care with compassion and respect. Established as a public hospital in 1952, it has a rich history of serving the Cohuna community and surrounding areas.

The hospital offers a range of acute services including medical, surgical and obstetric care through its 8-bed facility. In addition to inpatient care, Cohuna District Hospital provides vital community and home-based services such as District Nursing, Social Support Groups and Meals on Wheels, in partnership with Northern District Community Health.

Aged care is also a key part of our service, with a 16-bed nursing home wing adjacent to the hospital, built through strong community support. Our team is proud to work in a collaborative, supportive environment where staff are valued and encouraged to grow.

Role description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Cook to join our team and support the delivery of high-quality food services to our residents and community, including Meals on Wheels (MoW).

In this important role, you will be responsible for preparing nutritious, well-presented meals while ensuring all food services are delivered safely and in compliance with the Food Act 1984 and the Aged Care Quality Standards 2025. You will work closely with Food Services Assistants to coordinate daily kitchen operations and ensure efficient service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook meals in accordance with dietary requirements and menu plans
  • Coordinate daily food service operations with Food Services Assistants
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and cleanliness standards
  • Support the delivery of Meals on Wheels (MoW) services
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised kitchen environment
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aligned with the Food Services Plan
  • Provide respectful, person-centred service to residents and clients

About you

You are a reliable and motivated individual who takes pride in delivering high-quality food services. You will demonstrate:

  • Experience in a commercial kitchen, aged care, or health setting (preferred)
  • Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene requirements
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • A commitment to person-centred care
